Free Workshop and Lab: Cloud Native Apps

Free workshop and lab: Thursday 12th November 2020.

Say goodbye to old non-scalable monolithic applications. Cloud Native in a Day workshop is designed to simplify and accelerate your journey towards modernizing your existing applications and building new apps in a cloud native way using Kubernetes and other Azure technologies.

In this workshop, you will be guided by Bill Chesnut and Chris Gilbert to better understand:

  1. What is Kubernetes, Cloud Native and why it is the biggest trend in application development

  2. How Microsoft technologies can help you build modern applications that scale easily, achieve resiliency and leverage DevOps practices

  3. How to modernize your existing applications with minimal interruptions

The morning session will focus on use cases, cloud TCO value, common obstacles to avoid, and mapping out your migration/modernization strategy. The afternoon session will be dedicated to hands-on training to help get you started on your cloud native application development journey. The workshop runs 9:00am to 5:00pm with a 1-hour break for lunch.

Breakdown of the day:

Set-up and workshop: 9am- 12pm

Hands-on lab: 12:30pm – 5pm

Audience: technical – level 200/300

Pre-Requisites:

Read through and follow the steps provided in this “Before the hands-on lab setup guide” at least two days before the lab. Please note that you will not be able to participate in the lab until these steps are complete and they require some time to execute.

Facilitators:

Chris Gilbert – Principal Consultant at SixPivot and conference speaker on technical and agile development topics. Chris has been developing software in the .NET space for over 13 years. A technical leader with a breadth of experience in mentoring and hosting workshops, Chris is passionate about agile software development, developer productivity and tasty BBQ’s.

Bill Chesnut – A Microsoft MVP at SixPivot Bill has expanded from a traditional background of on-premises integration and development into some of the latest technologies in Microsoft Azure, including Azure DevOps and the Azure Integration technologies (Azure API Management, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Event Grid, Azure Service Bus), along with Azure Front Door. As a mentor, architect, designer, or developer, Bill supports and leads application integration projects to connect a variety of Microsoft Business Solutions applications with both on-premises and other SaaS providers.

Bill started his career in IT in 1983 with the US Defence as an IBM Systems Programmer. He switched to the Microsoft Windows platform in 1994 and has been involved with Windows development ever since. Bill has worked on numerous enterprise projects using Microsoft .Net, Microsoft C/C++, Visual Basic, and SQL Server. He’s a Microsoft Certified Trainer and has been actively creating and delivering Azure and BizTalk training since 2004.  Very involved in the Microsoft User Group Community as co-founder of Integration Down Under monthly webcast (https://www.integrationdownunder.com), Bill contributes to numerous meetup groups in Australia and New Zealand. He’s the primary organiser of the Global Integration Bootcamp in Melbourne and a member of the organising committee for Serverless Days Melbourne. Bill regularly presents at Microsoft’s lead events such as Ignite.
